His supporters at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland and in comment threads around the world believe we’ll see a President Trump. But who else?

Donald Trump has just finished his epic speech at a convention replete with mishaps and idiosyncracy. Despite the fact that he defied so many expert predictions that he stood almost no chance of winning the nomination, there remains a widespread sense that he can’t, surely, become the actual president of the actual United States of actual America.

Some don’t just think he has a realistic shot at it, however: they think he’s going to win.

Leftwing commentator and film-maker Michael Moore thinks Trump will win

“I’m sorry to be the buzzkill… but I think Trump is gonna … Mitt Romney lost by 64 electoral votes. The total votes of [Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania ] make 64. All he has to do is win those four states … The thing that we’re describing… ‘Make America Great Again’… He’s going to turn his presidency into a reality show; a literal reality show. But if I say that, millions are going to go, ‘Fuck yeah!’”

Jake Novak of CNBC thinks Trump will win

“Trump WILL be the next president … What Trump and his advisers clearly realized a long time ago was that it would have to really disrupt the hardened ‘red/blue’ divide to win. America’s demographics, news media, and educational establishments have all successfully destroyed the traditional Republican message for at least a generation.”

Canada’s former ambassador to the US, Derek H Burney, thinks Trump will win

“Donald Trump understands the angry mood of America better than his Washington-based Republicans, which is why he is the last man standing. Only Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders rivals Mr Trump with his intuitive grasp of America’s state of mind and that is why he is giving Hillary Clinton such an unexpected run for her money … Brace yourselves, Trump is going to win.”

Author Anis Shivani thinks Trump will win

“It will be easy if he keeps the libertine and destructive aspects of himself in perfect balance, seesawing from one to the other, as he has so far, appealing to an elemental fear in the country, torn apart by the abstraction of the market, to which Clinton has not the faintest hope of responding. He only has to use one distinctively non-misogynist, concretely unifying, morose five-letter word in the debates: NAFTA.”

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh thinks Trump will win

“My instinctive feeling right now is that Trump is going to win, beat Hillary badly, that it could be landslide proportions.  I still don’t think people understand why Trump won this.  I don’t think they understand at all the reason people support Trump.”

Conservative writer David Horowitz thinks Trump will win

“The reason Trump will win in November is that national security is at the top of voter concerns and Trump has been a strong advocate on this front. Beginning with his promise to build a wall, made national security issues – vetting Syrian Muslim refugees, rebuilding the military, “bombing the sh-t” out of ISIS and naming the enemy – have been centerpieces of his campaign.”

Canadian newspaper proprietor, British peer and convicted fraudster Conrad Black thinks Trump will win

“Hillary Clinton is carrying more baggage than the Queen Mary and Trump will carpet-bomb the country in September and October with a billion dollars of reminders of Benghazi (she slept while her ambassador was murdered), the televised apology to the world’s Muslims, the FBI director’s non-indictment indictment; the malodorous conflicts of the Clinton Foundation entwined with the Clinton State Department. Even Whitewater is due for a rerun. This is not Norman Rockwell’s or Walt Disney’s America, and it never was. American presidential politics is a jungle; the nominees are great beasts, but Donald Trump is larger and fiercer. In taking over a major US political party from the outside, he has done something that has never been done before, and he should win.”

Trump’s ousted political director Rick Wiley thinks Trump will win

Wiley said Republicans need to remember that the 2012 general election wasn’t a blow-out. If the GOP had turned out 400,000 more voters in four states combined – Ohio, Virginia, New Hampshire, and Florida – Mitt Romney would’ve won, he said. Trump will capitalize on his crossover appeal with non-Republican voters and win battlegrounds ‘where everyone says he can’t,’ Wiley said. ‘The unwritten story is the enthusiasm gap,’ he said.”

Megaupload founder sought by US for extradition Kim Dotcom thinks Trump will win

Televangelist Pat Robertson thinks Trump will win

“The way things are going, from what I have seen, from past elections, it looks like it is going to be a blow out for Trump … it is just amazing … how does [Hillary Clinton] reinvent herself? … she is not really coming through as authentic.”
