Pod on the Couch: Remembering New Zealand’s Britpop diaspora

britpop_pod_001

The Spinoff and Spark proudly present Pod On The Couch, a weekly podcast exploring music and the people that make it. This episode: Henry Oliver talks to Jane Yee and Duncan Greive about their teenage Britpop obsession.

Last week, music explainer site Pitchfork published a list of the ‘The 50 Best Britpop Albums‘. Having largely missed Britpop in favour of (better?) American music in the mid/late-’90s, The Spinoff Music editor, Henry Oliver, asked two of his Britpop-loving buddies – Jane Yee, host of the Real Pod, and Duncan Greive, The Spinoff’s editor/publisher, about what exactly Britpop was and what it was like to be a devotee on the other side of the world.

Late in the podcast, Duncan says he would make a playlist collecting his favourite Britpop, but he ran out of time, so we’re posting the Pitchfork one instead:
