The Wednesday Poem: ‘The further you look’ by Sam Hunt

All week this week we present new verse, to celebrate Phantom Billstickers National Poetry Day on Friday. Today’s poet: Sam Hunt of Kaipara.

The further you look

‘The further you look the

less you see’

she said as she smiled &

went down on me.

She talked of her marriage

a contract of kinds,

of truth & of love & of

two fucked minds.

For sure I loved him once

his little-boy look

that’s now just a wince

& love’s just luck.

We made love most of the night.

She cried a bit.

I liked ‘the less you see’ bit

‘the further you look’.
