A couple of weeks ago I was asked to write a short piece about my favourite X Factor contestant Lili. In the piece (which actually turned out to be very long) I retold the story of the first time she spoke to me.
I’m no great writer and as I was writing it, I felt like I wasn’t quite capturing the magic of the moment. I felt like words alone weren’t doing it justice, so I decided to write a song. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite finish it by the 2pm deadline so it didn’t make the cut. I thought about adding it to the story the following day but by then I’d gone off the song and decided it would never see the light of day.
Two weeks went by with close to no interaction with Lili. I’d essentially given up on the dream until late last night when this happened:
I re-listened to the song and my mind had changed. It was time to drop this banger for the world to hear. Please note that I didn’t have time to transpose it into a manlier key, so it’s quite high. Also note that I don’t know how to mix songs so I think it tops out if you play it through laptop speakers. Shouts to Jackie Wilson for the sample.
Please text Lili to 3999 to buy me another week to chase my dream.
