Waitākere, home of the best candidate in Auckland, and the worst.
David Rankin says the west will see “no benefit” from the City Rail Link.
Here’s a picture of the commute times on the Western Line before and after the CRL.
DAVID RANKIN NO NO NO. GRAPHIC: GENERATION ZERO
His policies are universally poor or nonsensical. He seems not to believe the Unitary Plan exists, claiming the council has “refused” to zone land for housing in west Auckland. Check out our stunning interactive Unitary Plan maps to find out just how ludicrously misguided that claim is!
EVIDENCE OF UPZONING IN WEST AUCKLAND.
He’s like what would happen if you constructed an anti-War for Auckland candidate in a lab.
Penny Hulse is what would happen if you constructed a pro-War candidate in a lab.
The Deputy Mayor shepherded the Unitary Plan process through, negotiating across the political spectrum to gather enough support for its more controversial measures, including the deletion of density controls in residential areas, and intense upzoning in the central suburbs.
She did it with the help of Linda Cooper, who despite a few gaffes, voted well during the hearings. Along with Bill Cashmore, she’s one of the most reasonable councillors from the right, and has generally voted in line with Len Brown’s pro-transport and density agenda.
Our only wish for Waitākere is that things stay exactly as they are. God bless the West.
