Paula Whetu Jones (Te Aitanga a Mahaki, Whakatōhea, Ngāti Porou) is a mother, grandmother, the Director of Whitiora Productions Ltd and a New Zealand Māori filmmaker. Spinal Destination is loosely based on Paula’s own experience of her time in Burwood Spinal Unit, after a sudden illness left her paralyzed.
