
Pene Dalton is a New Zealand-born educator currently based in Nagasaki, Japan. His iwi affiliations are Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāpuhi, and he was raised in South Auckland. He is the son of Ben Dalton and Pauline Vahaakolo. Pene teaches at one of Japan’s leading private schools, where he works primarily with students preparing for entry into medical school. He has spent the majority of his adult life in Japan, while maintaining strong ties to Aotearoa through regular visits. An avid traveller, he is married to his Japanese wife, Kyoko, and together they are raising three Japanese-Polynesian children. He shares reflections on culture, family, whakapapa, politics, and economics – whether through social media or in conversation over a good meal or drink.
