After a bizarre and unfathomably close-run campaign, election day is here.
Join us for the latest results and analysis that matters, free from an overload of slop, all the way through to the bitter end or full gastric atrophy, whichever comes first.
A reminder: the popular vote is not what will decide the fate of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. The target is a majority of electoral college: 270 from a total of 538. Those elecotral college votes are apportioned broadly according to population, and operate on a winner-takes-all basis (apart from in two states).
The first meaningful vote counts are expected from around 1pm. If you’re looking for a roundup of the timings for polls closing, a summary of the swing states, a sense of when we might learn what, here’s something we prepared earlier.
