Now You Know, season two, episode 76

Robbie Nicol explains what repercussions a politician can face at election time if they take "stretching the truth" a little too far.

All politicians stretch the truth. It's a core part of the job. But there can be repercussions for stretching the truth too far. There's the Broadcasting Standards Authority, a Crown entity that can uphold complaints on "election programmes". There's the Advertising Standards Authority, a self-regulatory body that can uphold complaints about most election advertisements. Then there's the media who can fact-check you and voters who can leave you behind. If you lie enough, you could even find yourself in prison!

These are the consequences a campaigning politician can face for lying too much.
