Dr Madeline Shelling (Ngāti Porou) holds a bachelor of science in geography and environmental management, as well as a PhD in Māori health from the University of Auckland. Her work with Ihi Research, alongside experience as a park ranger, has sparked a lifelong passion for reforestation and pest control, dedicated to food sovereignty and kaitiakitanga. She is currently undertaking a post-doctoral research project on Māori food security.
