The musician tells FIRST about the intensely satisfying feeling of cutting your own fringe, an awakening while watching Speed and more.
First song
“That was called ‘I Sort of Love You’. And it was a pisstake of love songs. It’s probably on the internet somewhere, if anyone wants to do some rangahau and look it up.”
First hairstyle
“I used to go under the bed with a pair of scissors and snip away at the front of my fringe. I know that lots of kids do this! It’s because it’s very satisfying. That sound and that feeling of the scissors going through the hair – very, very satisfying.”
First car
“My first car was a Renault Fuego. You should Google it, they’re a real treat. My dad had one, and then he bought like another two broken-down ones just for parts. This is how dedicated he was to this type of car. Quite nice to drive, quite a smooth ride.”
First celebrity crush
“I went to see the movie Speed, starring Keanu Reeves, and got a bit of a funny feeling for the first time. I was like, ‘Whoa, he’s kind of hot…’”
First phobia
“Buttons. I have a button phobia. I’ve heard of other people with this that seem to have it more extreme than me, they’re really genuinely scared of buttons. For me it was stronger when I was a kid, I couldn’t wear anything with even one button on it. Just those little holes!”
