Get to know Georgie, our latest Dog of the Month. This feature was offered as a reward during our What’s Eating Aotearoa PledgeMe campaign. Thank you to Georgie’s human, Peter, for his support.
Dog name: Georgie
Age: 2 years, 10 months
Breed: An absolute mutt. We think some Staffy, some Labrador.
If rescued, where from?
Mahia Animal Rescue. We wanted a rescue, and my fiancée ended up finding her on Facebook. Georgie came down via aeroplane to Timaru Airport with her brother, who was off to his new home in Queenstown.
If dog of the month had not been a reward in our PledgeMe campaign, give us the pitch on why Georgie would be dog of the month anyway
When I wasn’t working from home, I would leave the radio on for her, tuned to RNZ. She’s become well-versed in political news, and I’d like to think she’d be a reader of The Spinoff.
The photo Georgie would use for a social media or Tinder profile photo a professional LinkedIn headshot
The photo Georgie would ask to be taken down if you shared it on social media
The one in which she looks like Scrat from Ice Age.
What is Georgie’s idea of happiness? (stolen from Proust questionnaire)
Chasing a frisbee down at the park, or eating something she shouldn’t.
A photo of Georgie in her happy place
If Georgie could talk, what famous voice would she sound like?
A cross between Fergie and Jesus.
If you’ve ever dressed your dog for Halloween, Christmas or any seasonal occasion, please tell us why you chose the costume you did
Fiancée bought a pair of antlers for Christmas. Georgie hated them.
Would you say Georgie was charisma or glamour? (stolen from Dichotomies)
Neither, but at a push, charismatic. A creature that revels in rolling in animal carcasses could hardly be called glamourous.
Thunder or lightning? (also stolen from Dichotomies)
Not a big fan of thunder
What is Georgie’s best quality?
Her friendly nature – she loves everyone and makes everyone happy.
What is Georgie’s worst quality?
Her base instinct to destroy any toy she receives.
What food would Georgie want to see ranked by The Spinoff?
Peanut butter. She loves getting the remains of a tub.
Does Georgie have a job?
She dabbles in lawn work, mostly excavation.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our What’s Eating Aotearoa PledgeMe campaign. What’s Eating Aotearoa is a reader-funded editorial project from The Spinoff focused on food and how it shapes this country.
