Takeout Kids returns for season two. Meet Dom, of Taupō’s Thai Delight Restaurant & The Mira Restaurant.
Building on the success of its 2022 launch, Takeout Kids returns for a second season, following five tamariki and rangatahi growing up in the small businesses owned by their immigrant families. The latest season features young people from across Aotearoa as they sling doughnuts at an Auckland night market, scan the walls of polish lining their mum’s nail salon, serve hungry customers, and more.
Our second episode features Dom, who serves customers in Taupō’s Thai Delight Restaurant and The Mira Restaurant with his mum. At school, Dom learns what it means to have grit, but lessons in his golfing stance from his mum are a lot harder to stay patient with.
When the customers go home, Dom and his mum Pim are alone to discuss the pressing issues – namely, Dom’s strained relationship with his father, who is out of the picture and, in Dom’s eyes, should stay that way. Pim teaches Dom how to pronounce her surname, so that he’ll be ready to use it as his own.
