June Northcroft Grant

Guest writer

Born in Whakarewarewa in 1949 and of Te Arawa, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Tūhourangi, and Ngāti Wāhiao descent, June Northcroft Grant comes from a proud lineage of artists, entertainers, and trailblazing wāhine Māori. Her art, exhibited internationally, explores themes of strength, mortality, discovery, and identity, often drawing on whakapapa and tūrangawaewae. A long-time advocate for Māori art, June served 25 years with Te Ātinga and led two major International Artist Gatherings. She now works with Te Arawa Whānau Ora in breast and cervical screening and is deeply grounded in whānau life with her husband Mike, their four children, 13 mokopuna, and four great-grandchildren.
