Could you beat the Chaser? Probably not, so just follow our live blog of the first episode of The Chase New Zealand instead (contains spoilers – you’ve been warned).
For the past 16 years, New Zealand television viewers have been obsessed with British quiz show The Chase. The show screens on terrestrial TV at least three times daily, with four different versions and more than 100 episodes available on TVNZ+. Figures recently provided by TVNZ reveal that so far in 2025, The Chase UK and its various spinoffs (including Beat The Chaser and The Chase Australia) have reached 3.18 million viewers, or over 63% of all New Zealanders aged 5+. That’s nearly two out of every three of us who are glued to the gogglebox as host Bradley Walsh ponders questions like “what sport uses the terms dump, floater and wipe?” (it’s volleyball).
The Chase is one of the biggest game show franchises in the world, so you bet your high offer that we’re liveblogging tonight’s first episode of The Chase NZ. Hosted by Paul Henry, a team of four brave New Zealanders are about to take on some of the world’s biggest brainboxes to win a cash prize and the glory of winning the final chase. Four episodes were filmed in Sydney earlier this year, featuring two chasers – Anne “The Governess” Hegerty and Australian Chaser Issa “The Supernerd” Schultz.
Who will stumble on the easy questions? Who knows their Lorde from their lamingtons, and who is brave enough to take on the Chaser? Be here at 7.30pm to find out (you can watch the show live on TVNZ1 at 7.30pm or stream on TVNZ+).
