What’s happening?
The Real Pod (both Substack and Remember When versions) will be coming to an end this month with our final episode being a livestream on The Spinoff YouTube channel at 12.00pm Wednesday, 29th November 2023.
Why?
The Real Pod has always been a delight to make, but because we’re so fond of this product we’ve never wanted to give less than 100% to each other and our beloved cornies (fans of The Real Pod). However, the three of us have become increasingly busy over the years, and while we’ve always made sure there was a window in our weeks to make The Real Pod, unfortunately those windows have gotten smaller – to the point we feel there’s a real danger the magic could be compromised. So we’ve made the really difficult but necessary decision to put our lovely pod to bed.
I just subscribed to help support you guys, and now you’re leaving! Make it make sense!
Given we recently launched our paid subscription offering, we totally understand this timing is a bit funky. Clearly it wasn’t our plan to shut down The Real Pod when we launched our Substack, and we are so grateful for everyone who committed actual money to help keep the pod alive. Please know you genuinely made a difference! We have been really invigorated by the support on Substack and have had a lot of fun interacting with you guys there. We’re genuinely thrilled at how much the cornies have come through on the Substack and that makes the decision extra hard because it’s like we finally cracked the code, but at a time when we didn’t realise how close we were to running out of puff.
Truly, this decision has been made purely because finding time for all of us to be in a room together and making sure our content is fresh and worthy of our audience’s time has become more difficult.
What will happen to my paid Substack subscription?
If you have a monthly subscription that will automatically cease as of today. No more payments will come out of your account. If you have a yearly subscription (either regular or foundation) you’ll be refunded the remaining portion by the end of November. What about The Real Pod Corner? The Discord?
It’s been a long time since we were running the show in The Corner, and we’ve never really been key in keeping The Discord wheels turning. It’s the cornies who have poured sunshine and water into our online communities, so it makes total sense to hand over the keys to them so they can continue to nurture these spaces (as they have been doing for years) if they wish.
What will happen to Jane, Alex and Duncan?
We’ll still be here, at The Spinoff. We’re all working on a variety of exciting projects that we can’t wait to share with you. As for our voices, you’ll probably still hear us on mic from time to time – you can follow The Fold for your Dunc fix right now.
