The unemployment rate in New Zealand has risen faster than expected, hitting 5.6% in data released today by Stats NZ. This is the highest it has been since 2015.

The percentage of the total labour force unemployed for longer than one year is at 1.0%. Last quarter, this rate was also at 1.0% – the highest it has been in 26 years.
