OpenAI is valued at US$500bn. Anthropic and Elon Musk’s xAI are not far behind. AI-focused chipmaker Nvidia is now the world’s most valuable business, briefly reaching a valuation of US$5 trillion.

AI expert Ben Reid told The Spinoff that while he believes AI is a transformative technology, he also believes investment has likely got ahead of adoption, creating a clear and very large bubble, and that “it’s hard to believe it’s not going to pop any day now.”
