As of last Thursday, a majority-American board owns TikTok in the United States of America. Since this change in ownership, Downdetector has received “663,061 reports of issues from US users of TikTok between Saturday and Monday,” according to the BBC. Many outside the US have also reported glitches when trying to watch US videos.
According to TikTok USDS, these issues have been caused by “a major infrastructure issue triggered by a power outage”. Many, including celebrities like Billie Eilish and Meg Stalter, have claimed that the platform is censoring content.
In the past five days, “the daily average of US users deleting the TikTok app has increased nearly 150%,” CNBC reports.
