An urgent update from The Spinoff’s CEO
Some of The Spinoff staff thinking Election 2026.
The hard truths of running a media organisation in an election year – and why we need your help.
We’re in the throes of a very busy election season. We’re a small team, doing the most with what we have – working long hours; attending public meetings, debates and policy events; and working hard to respond to developments as they happen. We’re really proud of the work.
Our coverage clearly matters to you. At the end of June, our site traffic was up 25% compared to the same three-month period last year. But, while our audience has grown, new memberships haven’t kept up. To make things harder, commercial advertising revenue slows down right before an election.
This is why we urgently need 1,000 new donations before the election to help sustain our election coverage. Our stories are free for all to read – but they definitely aren’t free to make. That’s why we need your help.
So, if you’re able, please make a donation today. If you’re already a Spinoff member, we can’t thank you enough. We quite literally could not do this without you.
