We round up everything coming to streaming services this week, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, ThreeNow, Neon and TVNZ+

Nocturne (Apple TV, October 30)

Created by Rowan Joffé (Ballad of a Small Player) and based on the best-selling Joona Linna novels, the serial-killer thriller Nocturne stars the remarkable Stephen Graham as Jurek Walter, a Hannibal Lecter-like monster. He’s locked away in a prison psych ward, but when the killings and disappearances that were once his hallmark continue unabated, Jonah Lynn (Liev Schreiber), a retired homicide cop, must figure out who is carrying out Walter’s nefarious bidding. Also starring Zazie Beetz (Joker) as an FBI agent who is Lynn’s surrogate daughter, the dark and depraved Nocturne is one for fans of Hannibal and Mindhunter.

Love It or List It NZ (TVNZ+, November 1)

In season two of Love It or List It NZ, interior designer Alex Walls and real estate agent Paul Glover are back. They’re once again helping Kiwi homeowners who are facing the ultimate property dilemma: stay and renovate the family home they’ve fallen out of love with or sell up and start again. With Walls and Glover having “an easy-going, on screen chemistry reminiscent of Kirsty and Phil,” this real estate reality show is a light and breezy watch.

Minimum Wage (Netflix, October 26)

Based on the viral American High Shorts series of the same name, this 28-episode sketch comedy follows an overwhelmed group of oddball teenagers. They’re struggling to run a local pizzeria while juggling school, a manic boss, and minimum-wage salaries. The stakes may be low, but the pressure is immense. Featuring cast members from the original American High Shorts alongside newcomer Randall Park (Ant-Man), this Gen Z take on Saturday Night Live is sure to be a barrel of laughs.

Dexter: Resurrection (Neon, October 30)

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is back and he’s having a midlife crisis just as two new killers arrive on the block; the New York Ripper Don Frampt (Brian Cox), a serial killer who terrorised the Big Apple years ago, and Owen Stark (Dan Stevens), the Five Borough Killer. Caught between these two killers and the angst of aging, America’s most beloved anti-hero must continue his own pursuit of justice in the reboot that “is rooted firmly in the haunting and bleak foundation of the original series.”

Godzilla (HBO Max, October 30)

Helmed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One), this 2014 Hollywood reboot of Toho's iconic Godzilla franchise is like the 1954 original; “a combination epic horror film and parable of nature in revolt.” The film follows Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a macho explosives technician who has just reunited with his family in San Francisco when he’s forced to travel to Japan to help his estranged father, Joe (Bryan Cranston), who has been detained after trespassing in a supposedly abandoned city. Soon swept up in an escalating crisis, Brody finds himself facing off against Godzilla, the ancient alpha predator who needs no introduction. Labelled as “one of the great blockbusters of modern times,” this iteration of Godzilla is a must-watch.

Pick of the Flicks: The Gleaners and I (DocPlay, October 29)

Inspired by an 1867 painting by Jean-François Millet, Agnès Varda (Cleo from 5 to 7) in The Gleaners and I traverses the French countryside exploring the world of modern-day gleaners: “those living on the margins who survive by foraging for what society throws away.” Frequently voted as one of the greatest documentary films of all time, this “warmly human reflection on the contradictions of our consumerist world” is a late-career jewel from the mother of the French New Wave.
