There are 7,043 new community cases of Covid-19, bringing the seven-day rolling average of case numbers to 7,415, a reduction from last Saturday, when it was 8,475.

Seven people have died with Covid-19. The deaths reported today are for people who have died over the previous three days.

Delays to reporting can be associated with people dying with Covid-19, rather than from Covid-19, and Covid being discovered only after they have died.

These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with Covid-19 to 744. The seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 11.

Of the people whose deaths are reported today, one person was from Northland, one from the Auckland region, one from Waikato, one from MidCentral, two from Canterbury, and one from Southern.

One was in their 60s, three in their 70s, two in their 80s, and one was over 90.

Three were women and four were men.

There are 468 people in hospital with Covid-19, and of them 15 are in ICU.

Former students of disgraced Auckland clarinet teacher David Adlam complained about his behaviour years before the incidents that are the focus of the latest allegations, the NZ Herald reports.

Earlier this month Adlam was the subject of an investigation by The Spinoff’s Alex Casey, detailing a mid-2000s relationship between the music teacher, then in his 50s, and a student who was aged 16 at the time of their first lesson.

A former student at Epsom Girls’ Grammar says she and a classmate reported Adlam for alleged inappropriate behaviour towards a different teenager in 2000.

“The school’s current principal, Lorraine Pound, was asked what action was taken after the complaints and whether the situation was elevated beyond the school, but she said they have no records of any complaints,” the Herald reports.

“However, following the meeting, the former student said [Adlam] left the school suddenly.”

Adlam confirmed to The Spinoff that he had been questioned in regards to impropriety at the school in 1999, a year before the allegations raised in the Herald story. That investigation found insufficient evidence to proceed.

“Another former student confirmed complaints about his behaviour were raised at Epsom Girls’ and said Adlam had established a ‘pattern’ of entering inappropriate relationships with students,” the Herald reports.

National MP Simon Bridges will take over the top job at the Auckland Chamber of Commerce after departing from parliament, according to the NZ Herald.

The current chief executive, Michael Barnett, has been in the role since 1988. He has not made any announcement about his future plans and told Herald political editor Claire Trevett he had not resigned. However Trevett says he is expected to step down in the near future.

Bridges will make his valedictory speech to parliament this Wednesday, after announcing his resignation from politics in March.
