In 2020, the High Court ruled that the use of farrowing crates was “unlawful and invalid” under the Animal Welfare Act. Now, just two months before farrowing crates were set to be banned entirely, associate minister of agriculture Andrew Hoggard has proposed restricting the use of farrowing crates to seven days by 2035.
