One New Zealand, Spark and 2Degrees are all shutting down their 3G networks over the next four months. Spark estimates that roughly 2% of its customers use 3G, which is a small percentage of customers but still thousands of people. If those people want to be able to place emergency calls or receive security codes, they may have to buy a new phone.
If you want to know if this will affect you, free text “3G” to 550 to receive an automated response telling you whether or not your phone will be impacted by the 3G shutdown.
