As of March 9, US and Israeli forces have killed 1,761 people in Iran, according to the US-based organisation Human Rights Activists in Iran. As of March 10, Iran has killed 22 people across the region in response.
The Iranian military is dwarfed by the US military, but Iran’s position next to the Hormuz strait gives it significant leverage over the world’s supply of oil, liquid natural gas and fertiliser. By preventing ships from travelling through the strait, Iran can push up prices for the US, Israel and their allies, pressuring the US and Israel to cease their attacks.
