Last week, 53 people were hospitalised with Covid-19, and wastewater testing is showing increasing levels of the virus in the community. University of Otago epidemiologist Michael Baker says this is a sign that a new wave of Covid – the ninth since the omicron variant first spread in 2022 – is beginning in New Zealand.
