Te Pāti Māori kicks out Mariameno Kapa-Kingi and Tākuta Ferris

The national council of Te Pāti Māori has voted to expel two MPs: Mariameno Kapa-Kingi and Tākuta Ferris. For now, they remain in parliament as independents, but Te Pāti Māori could call on the ‘waka jumping’ legislation and argue that the expulsion has changed the ‘proportionality of the house’. If successful, there would then be byelections, where Kapa-Kingi and Ferris could lose their seats altogether.
