In 2024, New Zealand’s methamphetamine use doubled and it’s remained high ever since. In the past eight years, the price of meth has almost halved. And as the price drops, the social costs rise. In 2020, meth was “a contributing factor in almost half of all Oranga Tamariki care placements.”
