It is Wednesday, September 9, and 10,000 public servants from the Department of Internal Affairs, the National Emergency Management Agency, the Ministry for Ethnic Communities, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Ministry of Social Development are going on strike at 1pm.
Speaking to Stuff, PSA national secretary Duane Leo says PSA members want a pay rise that “keeps pace” with inflation, so their wages aren’t “going backwards”. Prime minister Christopher Luxon says, instead of striking, public servants should “get around the negotiating table and negotiate”.
