Takeout Kids returns for season two. Meet Lauren, of Tāmaki Makaurau’s Tanz KTCHN.
Building on the success of its 2022 launch, Takeout Kids returns for a second season, following five tamariki and rangatahi growing up in the small businesses owned by their immigrant families. The latest season features young people from across Aotearoa as they sling doughnuts at an Auckland night market, scan the walls of polish lining their mum’s nail salon, serve hungry customers, and more.
In episode three, we meet high school student Lauren, whose school days are made long and yawning by nights spent working at the family business in Ōtara. She’s currently at a crossroads: mounting pressure to decide on a career “Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C” from school teachers and advice from family is adding to her stress levels, and she’s torn between staying with the family business, or moving into the tourism industry so she can see the world.
But first, Lauren needs to pass her driving test. And cope with a backlog of doughnut orders. And, hopefully, get a good night’s sleep.
