A Labour/Greens voter who’s concerned about move-on orders

Henry (2250 x 1350 px) - 3

This usually Labour voter flipped to the Greens last election and is weighing up which one to vote for this year.

Name: Leaton

Age: 27

Occupation: Nothing right now – between jobs.

Family/relationship: Yeah, I live with my family.

Electorate: Kelston*

Who will you vote for? Kelston’s been notoriously Labour the past couple of years – I think it flipped last election. I’m still leaning towards Labour or the Greens, a bit more to the left.

What appeals about Labour and the Greens? Just them addressing capital gains tax and other things like that. They feel more on-the-ground to me than National, who feel more corporate – and different from what other countries seem to be doing.

When will you make the decision? Probably the week of.

What’s the biggest policy issue for you? Addressing a lot of public issues – things like the move-on orders that recently passed. Day-to-day stuff. It’s really whatever interesting issues I see or hear about on the ground.

Do you talk about politics at home? Not often.

Describe New Zealand in three words: That’s a tough one... a unique experience. Yeah, a unique experience.

If you had to get a politician’s face tattooed on you, who would it be? That’s tough – honestly, none of them really have tattooable faces.

Will you vote on election day or before? Probably before, but if I end up being lazy, it’ll be on the day.

What will you do on election night? I’ll be tuning into the news, watching results come in.

– As told to Henry Oliver

*Kelston no longer exists as an electorate following last year's boundary review; the area is now covered by the new electorates of Waitākere and Glendene.
