We round up everything coming to streaming services this week, including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, ThreeNow, Neon and TVNZ+.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man (Netflix, March 20)

Running from 2013 to 2022, Peaky Blinders was a cultural phenomenon that caused a worrying surge in flat cap-wearing among well-to-do men”. In Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Cillian Murphy reprises his role as Thomas Shelby on the big-screen, bringing the totemic crime drama back for one last hurrah. Amid the chaos and horror of World War Two, the self-exiled gangster must return to Birmingham to confront Barry Keoghan’s Duke Shelby, his estranged son and brutal new leader of the Peaky Blinders. A entertaining slice of British pulp that knows exactly what it is”, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man should sate the bloodlust of fans”.

Deadloch (Prime Video, March 20)

With the first season of Deadloch being described as a ripsnorting whodunnit that pumps new blood into old tropes”, expectations are high as the diametric detective duo of Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe head to Darwin to investigate the death of a former policing partner. However, their plans soon change and the two find themselves up to their necks in aworld of crocodile-fueled tourism, overstretched Indigenous rangers, cagey locals, and seven-meter prehistoric predators”. With Kate Box and local comedy veteran Madeleine Sami returning as Collins and Redcliffe, season two of Deadloch is bound to be a bloody good time.

Rental Family (Disney+, March 18)

Directed by Beef’s Hikari, and starring Oscar-winner Brendan Fraser, the Tokyo-set Rental Family follows Fraser as Phillip Vandarploeg, an out-of-work American actor who’s struggling to find purpose in life. His life changes for the better when he lands an unusual gig; he’s hired by a Japanese agency that rents out actors to clients in need of fake relatives, partners, and friends. Described as a beautiful and contemplative film, with lovely messaging and a couple of sly twists”, the heartwarming Rental Family is likely to leave you misty-eyed.

Radioactive Emergency (Netflix, March 18)

You’ve heard of the disasters at Chernobyl, Fukushima and Three Mile Island, but the Cesium-137 in Goiânia, Brazil, is much lesser-known. Resulting in four deaths and the exposure of thousands to radioactive contamination, the Goiânia incident forms the basis for this Brazilian miniseries, which follows a ragtag group of heroes in their race against time to save those who were exposed to the deadly matter. Reminiscent of HBO’s Chernobyl and The China Syndrome, be sure to check out this gripping depiction of one a darkest chapter in the history of modern Brazil.

Imperfect Women (Apple TV, March 18)

An adaptation of the Araminta Hall novel of the same name, Imperfect Women, stars Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington, and Kate Mara, a trio whose decades-long friendship is torn apart after one of them is murdered. As the investigation unfolds, the veneer of their picture perfect lives begins to unravel when dark secrets, betrayals and rivalries rear their ugly heads. Also featuring Joel Kinnaman, Corey Stol and Rome Flynn as the love interests of these complex women, this psychological thriller is custom-made for fans of Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects.

Pick of the Flicks: Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie (AroVision, March 17)

From Matthew Johnson, the director of the critically-acclaimed Blackberry and the upcoming Anthony Bourdain biopic, comes this early contender for the funniest and most charming movie of the year”. The time travel mockumentary is based on Johnson’s and co-writers Jay McCarroll’s webseries and TV show of the same name, where the plans of two Toronto musicians to book a show at the iconic Rivoli go horribly awry when they accidentally travel back to 2008. Consistently funny, smart, and even sweet,” this riotous film is guaranteed to have you laughing until your sides split.
