Thought there was no more Bad News? You were wrong!
Why does no one care that the world is ending? How will we all survive when everything falls apart? Concerned her chance of survival in a climate change-induced societal breakdown is low, Alice investigates why not enough is being done to mitigate it, and attempts to identify the problem/solution.
Alice Snedden’s Bad News Saves the World is coming to The Spinoff in two parts, on Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29 February.
In part one, scientist David Frame warns of warming, economist Shamubeel Eaqub warns of doom and Alice speaks to outgoing Green Party co-leader James Shaw about why no one cares. For some hope and light relief, Alice chats to climate activist Mike Smith and a possible solution emerges – picking a fight with farmers (bizarrely in the name of Rose Matafeo).
In part two, Alice asks Fonterra high-ups why after six years of negotiations they’re still excluded from the Emissions Trading Scheme. She tries to understand farmers’ challenges with Dr Tanira Kingi, and goes to an A&P show to admire juicy udders, devour a sausie sizzle, and step in some cow shit.
