We round up everything coming to streaming services this week, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple TV+, ThreeNow, Neon and TVNZ+

If you like New Zealanders in surprising roles: Cocaine Bear (Netflix, September 24)

If you like your movies silly and splattery, last year’s cult hit Cocaine Bear is coming to Netflix this week. Directed by Elizabeth Banks, the film is inspired by the true story of an American black bear who ingested 34 kilograms of cocaine dumped by drug smugglers. In reality, the bear sadly died. In Cocaine Bear, the bear goes on a killing spree, and everyone from Felicity from Felicity to Tyler from Modern Family are in the firing line. Cocaine Bear also has a pretty surprising local angle: the titular Cocaine Bear is played by a New Zealander

If you like an odd couple rom com: Nobody Wants This (Netflix, September 26)

Inspired by the experience of creator Erin Foster, who converted to Judaism a when she married her Jewish husband, there’s certainly a parallel between Nobody Wants this and local comedy Kid Sister. When brash podcaster Joanne (Kristin Bell) meets rabbi Noah (Adam Brody) at a party, they seem like the least compatible people on Earth. But life finds a way in rom coms, and soon they are on a roller coaster romance filled with many social and cultural faux pas. The Guardian said it was “slick and bingeable, and full of snappy, sassy dialogue.”

If you like spooky small town horror: From S3 (TVNZ+, Sep 23)

For those with strong stomachs and a penchant for the horrifying, From returns to TVNZ+ this week. Featuring horrible creatures who come at night and the horrors of human desperation by day, critics are calling S3 of From a return to form: “With gripping characters, powerful mysteries, and a dark storyline filled with memorable, horrific moments, From season 3 offers its most compelling narrative since season one,” wrote Screen Rant.

If you like wealthy Australian melodrama: Made In Bondi (Hayu, September 24)

Sydney is the latest territory to enter the fires first forged by Made in Chelsea way back in 2011. Made in Bondi dives headfirst into a world of “opulence, romance, and endless drama” where the people are tanned and the tears flow like Dom Perignon. Early reviews called the series “insufferable” and claimed that it made them “want to dig my eyes out with a spoon.” Sounds like one for fans of trashy, captivating and bizarre Australian opulence a la Byron Baes

If you’re scared of AI and need Oprah: An Oprah Special: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Us (Sep 27, Disney+)

You know the rubber is hitting the road when Oprah bloody Winfrey gets involved. “I’ve been living on this planet for seven decades. I’ve seen a lot of things change. But about a year ago, I saw the first change I didn’t fully comprehend,” she says in the teaser trailer for her upcoming special. “Artificial intelligence is here, and life for all of us is about to be very different.” In a one-hour special speaking with a range of experts and commentators, Oprah promises to get to the bottom of what is going on with AI, and what is coming for us all (a free cruise, hopefully).
